Students at Stirling Public School have been working together on a school-wide project to help people in the area who are experiencing homelessness.
On February 28, 2025 they held an assembly for the whole school, approximately 700 students, where they presented a gift of 576 blankets (that's about 400 lbs of blankets) to Grace Inn Shelter. Ashley Vader, Director of Operations at Grace Inn was there to receive the donation on behalf of the shelter.
The project, organized by Stirling Public School staff Theresa Hadley, Jodi Burgess, Ashley Pope and Marcie O'Shea started with two classrooms participating last year and has now grown to a school-wide effort.
What makes this project really special is that each blanket has a hand-written letter of encouragement and hope attached to it. Younger students had buddies to help them write their letters. Through this project, students have learned about empathy and kindness.
The blankets were donated through Blankets of Hope, a non-profit organization that partners with schools to distribute blankets across the nation. The school has also been collecting other necessities for those in the community who are experiencing homelessness.
Congratulations staff and students at Stirling Public School for making a difference in your community.
