September 7, 2021-The start of a new school year is always filled with anticipation and excitement. This year that is especially true for students, families and staff in Central Hastings communities.
On September 7, 2021 the newly-named Central Hastings School opened as a K-12 school. This revitalized learning environment amalgamates two schools: Madoc Public School, which closed at the end of June 2021, and Centre Hastings Secondary School, which served students in Grades 9-12. CHS enrolment is presently at 800 students.
"We are pleased and excited to be able to start our new school year in this beautifully renovated space. The staff of CHS are ready to welcome students back to in-person learning in our new K-12 school," said Katherine MacIver, Director of Education.
In March 2018, HPEDSB received $5.8 million in Ministry of Education funding, with an additional $2.7 million in April 2020, to consolidate Madoc Public School and Centre Hastings Secondary School to create a K-12 school.
The project involved constructing a two-room Kindergarten addition, as well as renovations within the school and improvements to the school grounds.
Principals Kim Reid and Dayna Scaletta, both of whom were at the two schools previously and are well-known in the community, will share responsibility for leading this school year.
All CHS staff are excited to work together to support students from the Central Hastings area in the new and improved school.
