Dear Families:

As we approach the winter break, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we have shared over the past year. It is time for rest and connection, but also a time to celebrate the hard work happening in our classrooms every day.

We are moving forward with a renewed sense of purpose guided by our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. Our new vision is clear: Inspiring and innovating for a bright future, combined with our new mission to educate and empower students with skills for success. A massive part of the strategic plan focuses on Strengthening Foundational and Real-World Skills. We continue to be committed to ensuring every student has high-quality literacy and numeracy skills to succeed in education, work and daily life.

I am happy to share that we are seeing the fruits of this focus. Our recent EQAO results indicate significant growth, with achievements rising in seven of the eight assessment areas compared to previous years.

Some specific highlights include:

  • Grade 3: Reading achievement rose by 7 percentage points.
  • Grade 6: Writing achievement saw a remarkable 12 percentage point increase.
  • Grade 9: Achievement in Destreamed Mathematics increased by 9 percentage points.

While these results are just a snapshot in time, when combined with our other data, they tell us we are on the right track. This progress is a direct result of the intentionality and precision of our staff, who have worked tirelessly to align instructional practices across all our schools. I am deeply grateful for their dedication to supporting every learner each and every day in their classroom.

For a more detailed look at our system’s achievements, I invite you to review the 2025 Director’s Annual Report. As we look toward January, we will continue to inspire, empower and educate all students to prepare them for a bright future. For now, I wish you a safe, restful and joyous holiday season.

Warmly,

Katherine
