A message to families from Katherine MacIver, Director of Education

Dear Families:

Welcome to November! November is our first formal reporting month for the 2024-2025 school year. Our elementary schools will send out progress reports, and secondary schools will send the midterm evaluations for Semester 1 learning. No matter the age, we know that students succeed when parents are partners in education. We invite you to reach out to your child’s teachers and work together to ensure the best possible learning experience. I want to emphasize the importance of regular attendance for students. When reviewing your child’s report, please review the attendance information and, if needed, make a plan to ensure great attendance all year!

This month, we are excited to invite you to participate in the first of a series of feedback sessions that will shape the new HPEDSB multi-year strategic plan. Your insights and ideas are invaluable as we work together to create a meaningful and impactful path forward for our students, schools, and community. Throughout this school year, we will hold virtual and in-person sessions to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to contribute. These sessions are designed to be inclusive spaces for you to share your thoughts on the direction of HPEDSB and the educational priorities that matter most to you and your family.

To begin, we will use ThoughtExchange, a tool you may be familiar with, to get some insight into what is most important to you in education and where you feel education needs to go in the next 3 to 5 years. An exchange allows you to share your ideas and view and rate other ideas that have been shared. Don’t worry, posted thoughts don’t reveal the individual who submitted them. A second exchange and an in-person opportunity will be held in the new year to discuss the priorities and goals of the system.

Your voice is a vital part of shaping the future of our education system, and we are grateful for your engagement and commitment to your child’s success. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

With thanks and best wishes,

Katherine MacIver
Director of Education
