Three HPEDSB students recently represented the Quinte region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) 2025 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. They showcased their innovative projects while competing against the nation's top student scientists. They earned their place at the national event after impressing judges at the Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair earlier this year.

HPEDSB student projects included:

  • Helping Hands by Eli Poyner (Easthill Elementary School)
  • SynerGNN: AI-Driven Prediction of Antibiotic Synergy Against Klebsiella pneumoniae by Hassan Khan (Bayside Secondary School)
  • VacuShield: A Revolutionary Device To Evacuate Surgical Fumes by Isabella Guan (Bayside Secondary School)

Congratulations to Eli Poyner who won a gold medal in the Junior Division and the S.M. Blair Family Foundation Award, and to Isabella Guan won a gold medal in the Junior Division as well.

The CWSF provides a platform for students to share their passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with peers, judges and the public. At CWSF 2025, the students had the opportunity to present their research to a panel of expert judges, attend workshops and engage in various STEM-related activities. The fair attracted thousands of visitors, including students, educators and industry professionals.

“The Canada-Wide Science Fair is an incredible opportunity for these students to showcase their hard work and connect with other young scientists from across the country. We are incredibly proud of their achievements,” said Scott Berry (Quinte Delegate to the 2025 CWSF).
