May 7-8, 2025 secondary students from across HPEDSB gathered at the Mohawk Community Centre for the Indigenous Student Symposium. The theme of the event was Ignite Your Fire: Become a Changemaker.
Students heard from guest speakers and also participated in workshops. Some of the workshops that students could choose to attend included: Storytelling, Hats for Hides, Water Teachings, Fashion and Upcycling, and Cycle of Ceremonies.
A key part of the day was being able to meet Indigenous students from other schools. We are proud of our students who are future changemakers who already have a voice and are making a difference in their schools and communities. Thank you to the organizers, Indigenous coaches and facilitators who made the event a success.
