Dear Families: Preparations for remote learning starting Monday, November 21, 2022
A strike by education workers of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) may occur next week, starting Monday, November 21, 2022. Negotiations to reach a settlement are continuing through the weekend.
If a settlement is not reached, schools will be closed to students starting Monday, November 21, 2022 and for the duration of the strike, with remote learning in place for all students. Remote learning will be a blend of synchronous and asynchronous formats.
Students are expected to access remote learning online through their Google Classroom or Brightspace account. Your child’s teacher(s) will contact you about the remote learning schedule and accessing content online.
Please contact your child’s teacher if your child requires access to technology or connectivity. Families who do not have access to technology or connectivity are asked to contact their child’s teacher for an alternate learning plan.
REMINDERS
- Before/after school and EarlyON programs hosted in HPEDSB schools, and community use of schools permits are on pause during the strike. If your child attends a daycare hosted in one of our schools, please contact the daycare provider directly.
- High school students in co-op education placements can continue going to their workplace if it is not at a school or school board office. If it is at one of those locations, the placement is on hold and alternative learning will be provided by the teacher.
If the situation changes in the coming days, we will communicate as soon as possible, including on Sunday, November 20, or early on Monday, November 21 through an email to you, and also through the local media, the website HPEschools.ca and @HPEschools social media.
