At HPEDSB, we believe words matter. That's why we've partnered with Harmony Movement to take a stand against hateful language. It's about creating lasting, respectful and inclusive school communities where everyone can thrive.
During this school year (September 2025 to June 2026), all HPEDSB schools are participating in the Harmony Movement Words Matter Campaign.
Words have immense power to shape the environment and experiences of our students and staff. The Words Matter Campaign enables each school to lead transformative change by equipping their entire school community with the resources to reduce the incidence and impact of harmful and discriminatory language within the school community.
The Words Matter Campaign is dedicated to exploring the nuances of language that can perpetuate harm, bias and discrimination.
The goal? Build more inclusive and respectful communication environments by educating students and communities about the power of words and the importance of mindful language use. Words Matter aims to empower school communities to confidently respond to discriminatory language and foster a culture that values respect and unity.
By having open dialogue and education about the power of words, the aim is to create a culture of mindful communication. The Words Matter campaign involves students and staff, along with parents and caregivers, emphasizing the crucial role that families play in promoting respectful interactions.
