At Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB), we are committed to the learning, wellbeing and achievement of all students. In order to ensure our schools meet the needs of all students, HPEDSB is conducting a second district-wide student census called This is Me in HPE.

This census aligns with our board's commitment to ensuring equitable, accessible and inclusive environments for all students. This commitment is formalized in Policy 20: Equity and supports the HPEDSB 2025-2030 Strategic Plan priority of Promoting citizenship, well-being and safe environments.

Let's work together to support equity and inclusion for all students. Help us learn more about you or your child!

Please join us in completing the census to ensure all students are empowered and educated with skills for a bright future.

Student Census purpose

Why are we doing this? HPEDSB is committed to meeting the learning needs of all students. For us to identify and address inequities, barriers or discriminatory biases, we need to better understand the diversity that exists across our system. That includes knowing more about our students and school communities.

This census is aligned with the Ontario Anti-Racism Data Standards and is a priority action step in the HPEDSB Equity Action Plan.

It is also aligned with Ontario's Education Equity Action Plan, which commits to identifying and eliminating systemic barriers and discriminatory biases.

Why your participation matters

The This is Me in HPE Student Census is voluntary, and confidential but not anonymous. It will respect every student's confidentiality and privacy rights. Collecting this information will help us:

  • Learn more about our students and their lived experiences
  • Support improved student achievement and well-being
  • Enhance equitable, inclusive, safe and supportive spaces
  • Inform HPEDSB policies and procedures

Three versions of the Student Census

There are three versions of the student census. Sample census questions are linked below for awareness. Students and families are not required to print or complete them.

  • JK-3 for parents/caregivers to complete on behalf of their child
  • Grade 4-6 to be completed by the student in class
  • Grade 7-12 to be completed by the student in class

Before the census is provided to students, families will receive a letter explaining the purpose, how to participate and how to opt out, if applicable.
