Construction of the new Easthill Elementary School in Belleville is nearing completion. The school will open in September 2024.
Easthill ES will consolidate students from two schools: Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. Although Easthill ES will be ready for occupancy* in the new calendar year, the decision has been made to wait until September so that students and staff from the two schools can move in together. This option was requested by the majority of staff and families during a consultation last spring and we are honouring their feedback.
In the meantime, once occupancy is granted in early 2024, teams from Facility Services, and Information and Technology Services will be able to install and program phone/internet devices and systems, install SMART Boards, do floor finishing and final cleaning, then move everything in from the other two schools.
The original opening date of fall 2023 was affected by delays with the construction process.
The opening of EES marks a thrilling new chapter in the HPEDSB history, bringing an era of fresh learning opportunities and excitement for students, families and staff alike.
More information will be shared in the coming months as progress is made. An open house will be scheduled at a later date (still to be determined) for students, families, staff and community partners to tour the school.
*A simple explanation of occupancy means that the building becomes the possession of HPEDSB from the contractor and staff can access it without restrictions of hard hats, steel toe boots, etc.
